A free society has been stolen by 'millions of individual surrenders,' as in Vichy

"A willed amnesia has a way of overpowering even the ugliest history. After 65 years, both the citizens and leaders of France still try to forget the moral squalor of the dark years, 1940 to 1944, when their parents and grandparents lived under German occupation. The people of Vichy, for instance, can still be heard complaining that what the world knows best about their spa town is that it was chosen as the capital of a puppet regime that governed part of the country while submitting to German direction.

Vichy officials handed over about 76,000 Jews to the Nazis and

  • sent 650,000 non-Jews into slave labour in Germany. The locals, understandably, would prefer to be known for Vichy water and the restorative baths famous since Roman times.

Rush calls out The Messiah, fake Republicans in DC, and so-called conservative pundits

"Americans are losing jobs and homes. A worldwide runaway recession seems headed for depression,
“You can’t just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done,” Obama told GOP leaders invited to the white House to discuss his nearly $1 trillion stimulus package. ...
Better give the strings of your recently acquired puppet an extra tug. Within days of having to be sworn in twice, President Barack Obama is looking a lot more like a tinpot dictator than The Messiah.
  • Like an l’enfant terrible on an unholy tear in the palace, he’s used his presidential pen to shut down Hotel Gitmo, signed documents for American taxpayer-paid abortions in foreign countries and is gloating, “I won!” and “I will trump that!”

But America’s newly ACORN elected president and touted King of the World has turned a certain shade of green over the likes of established King of the Airwaves Rush Limbo, “El Rushbo” to millions

When he was still President-elect, Barack Obama loaded up on brass in the personage of Colin Powell who started telling Republicans not to listen to the guiding light of millions.

  • The cat was out of the proverbial bag and conservatives knew something was coming.

Comically enough savvy Rush was his usual 10 steps ahead of the POTUS,

  • predicting Obama edicts before they were even issued.

El Rushbo had already declared himself “Last Man Standing”, when he predicted on January 23, 2009 that

Responding to a caller who asked, “What can I and other people do?” to get people to understand what is happening to them, Rush described winning strategy:

“Well, you know, I’ve been giving this a lot of thought because I get this question frequently. and right now the focus of the attention on the American people is worthwhile. It’s going to be a big project, because right now the American people are not thinking, and we’ve gotta find a way to reach them by virtue of emotion, at least the Obama supporters and some of the cult followers And there are a lot of Republicans in this group, too, by the way. I don’t think reason is the way to approach them right now. Reason will be automatically rejected, because they view this not within the realm of reason, but within the realm of emotion and hope, all these ethereal things that are not tangible. I think the only thing that’s going to turn people around will be time, and that will require the failure of Obama policies to work. That will happen, and I think 2010, 2012 will both provide pretty good opportunities for significant Republican gains in the House and Senate, maybe even the White House back, but limiting the damage between now and then so that even after Republicans win in 2010 or 2012, that there’s still something left to fix, that’s not so far gone.

...”But, look, I think what’s coming is going to be a concerted effort by the Obama administration to separate our elected officials from us on the Republican side. Colin Powell is working on that.

  • Colin Powell is already out there saying Republicans should ignore Limbaugh, meaning conservatives, plus me.

McCain (in a) New York Times story today, “The Maverick is Back”. And what does that mean. It means he’s back criticizing the Republican Party, and they’re celebrating it. So I think what’s going to happen, Obama had a meeting with congressional leaders today, and it’s a wild guess, but my assumption is that there’s going to be an attempt made

  • to separate elected Republicans in the House and Senate from their voters.

“The effort is going to be, “Don’t listen to what your voter says. It’s not the way this is going to get done. We’re not going to get things done up here, unless we work together my way.” That’s what Obama is going to say.”

As it turned out El Rushbo was right on the mark."

No 'climate change' in Kansas

"For more than 20 years, we have been hearing doomsday predictions about global warming's effects on Kansas and across the world. Locally, during the hot Kansas summer of 2006, forecasts were issued and media articles written tying that hot, dry weather to global warming, and forecasting more extreme heat in the future.

According to one scientist with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, global warming in 2006 was already "kicking the heat up a notch."

But the weather has refused to cooperate with those forecasts.

More drought? The reality: 2007 and 2008 were the two wettest years in the history of Wichita. No area of Kansas is experiencing drought at the present time, in spite of all that hand-wringing just two years ago.

Extreme heat? The reality: The past two years, combined, had 21 fewer days than average with 90-degree or higher temperatures. Since 1990, there has been a downward trend in 100-degree or warmer temperatures in Wichita.

It isn't just Kansas. In spite of the highest concentrations of carbon dioxide in the history of civilization, world temperatures have failed to warm the past 10 years. Ocean heat content is falling. World ice concentrations (Arctic and Antarctic combined) are higher than normal.

The 2001 forecasts by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (cited by Al Gore) have failed to capture the recent cooling, as the above graph indicates, suggesting that the carbon dioxide-atmosphere connection is more complex than some initially believed. A small but growing number of scientists are becoming concerned about global cooling due to the current unusually low solar activity and other geophysical factors.

The fact is that the solar-land-ocean-atmosphere system is incredibly complex, and meteorologists have no consistent skill at forecasting its behavior a year into the future, let alone decades hence."....

Planet Gore looks to Geesepeace for answers in US Airways near tragedy

"Did an Earmark Bring Down the US Airways Flight [Greg Pollowitz]

Question for Senator Schumer: How's that non-lethal, environmentally friendly solution for controlling New York City's Canada Geese working out for you?

Geese overpopulation is a major health hazard to local residents and the environment

Federal funds will go towards "Geesepeace" program for New York that uses humane methods to stop Canadian geese from ruining parks and fields

US Senator Charles E. Schumer today announced that Congress has passed $200,000 in federal funds for the US Fish and Wildlife Service to implement a Geesepeace program that works to alleviate the Canada geese overpopulation problem that threatens the health of local residents and the environment. Geesepeace is a national non-profit organization that uses non-lethal methods to reduce the number of geese and redirect them to areas where they pose less of a threat to people. The funds come as part of the agricultural appropriations component of the Omnibus bill passed today by the Senate and have been earmarked to be used specifically for New York. The bill, previously passed by the House, now awaits the President's signature.

"Canada geese are overrunning our parks and open spaces and their droppings are polluting our water and our land," Schumer said. "When you talk to anyone who uses local parks, playgrounds, open spaces, athletic fields and golf courses, you hear the same complaint, time and time again. That's why we need a solution to this problem and that's what we have with the Geesepeace program. It will control the goose population and keep our parks and open spaces clean, green and beautiful."

This issue came up in 2004 when Geesepeace was trying to save a flock of geese from Riker's Island (in the flight path of Laguardia) rather than have the geese killed:

In this time of trouble in faraway places, the man-versus-fowl struggle brewing on Rikers Island may seem trivial. But its implications are dire for a certain flock.

On one side are geese, slender-necked and given to relieving themselves liberally, who like where they are living, a stone's throw away from La Guardia Airport. On the other is a worried band of federal officials who believe the geese are too close to planes carrying millions of passengers in and out of one of the nation's busiest airports.

History teaches that these things hardly ever end well — for the birds at least. Indeed, by the end of the day today, barring a last minute reprieve, 495 Canada geese will be on their way to an upstate slaughterhouse, Port Authority and federal wildlife officials said yesterday.

There's nothing in the New York Times archives between the 2004 slaughter and the crash yesterday, but I think an investigation into what was or wasn't done over the years to control the geese is in order. If environmental concerns overrode passenger safety then that's something that needs to be debated in light of yesterday's miracle. " from Planet Gore,
